Coronavirus might do some good for us in the future

If you’ve been living under a rock, coronavirus is the virus that causes the disease COVID-19. It is considered worse than the flu with estimated death rates at around 30 to 40 times as lethal as the average flu virus.

The disease is causing a mass panic among Americans and in countries around the globe. I went to buy some food today from Amazon and almost everything was all sold out even rice and beans.

Not only that but hand sanitizer, toilet paper, and other essentials were also sold out. The reason this is happening is because people are panicking. They are buying items in bulk to stock up, because of fear that there will not be anything left.

This pandemic isn’t just causing fear from running out of resources and dying, but people are also having to isolate themselves from the world to prevent the further spread of this awful disease.

Some corrupt people are also using this as a chance to buy up items and sell them for outrageously high prices. This is called price gauging. It feels like it’s the end of the world.

Anxiety forums all over the internet, including reddit, are filled with anxious people begging for support as they have panic attacks caused by this stressful situation.

A light at the end of the tunnel..

The death toll is in the thousands and it looks bleak. However, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. COVID-19 might just be the catalyst that transforms the country, the U.S.A, into a country that will save us all. I think this disease could improve our lives in the coming years if we just handle things correctly. Let me explain.

In America, we have a massive crisis of unemployed disabled people, mentally ill people, and poor people. Around 10 percent of Americans are uninsured health wise, and education is putting people into massive debt.

Our country is one of the few first world countries that doesn’t have these benefits. However, the coronavirus might change that.

Andrew Yang

Andrew Yang was a Democrat that tried to win the Democratic nomination for the year 2020. He seemed to have a good game plan. His plan was to implement a universal basic income if he became president.

For those who don’t know, a universal basic income is a monthly payment made to all people of a country. It’s usually funded by taxes. Yang planned to fund it by taxing big technology corporations like Amazon, Facebook, and Google. This tax is called the VAT tax, and he wants to tax them at around 10%. (Europe taxes it’s corporations at 20 percent for your information).

A lot of people supported this idea, and even though he eventually dropped out of the race, he gained a lot of supporters. Some of these included politicians on the left, but also some conservative politicians as well.

The idea of U.B.I, universal basic income, was to replace lost income caused automation, because robots are replacing humans in the workforce. This may seem unrelated, but it’s not.

Back to the Coronavirus

Now back to the coronavirus, COVID-19 is causing massive unemployment. People are losing their jobs and are having a hard time paying rent. This is something many disabled people deal with permanently.

Even though not everyone has lost their jobs, many people are having to distance themselves from the public, and this is causing a good portion of people to not be able to earn an income. People are going broke and having to burn through their savings to survive. Many people may not even have any savings.

On the bright side

This leads me to my point. What are we going to do to fix this and how soon can it be fixed? Many people need healthcare to pay for tests and treatment, and people need income now to help pay rent.

Well, Andrew Yang spoke out to the white house and volunteered to give his expertise on universal basic income. U.B.I could really help the American people out right now, and it seems president Donald Trump understands this.

There is talk in the white house about giving an income to all Americans to help with the virus. If this pulls through, this could massively change our reality as we know it especially if they give it to disabled people. If the people of America see how great U.B.I can be, they may vote to keep it in place for the rest of our lives.

This would be revolutionary and help poor people all across America. Homeless disabled people would now have money to pay rent, people could start their own businesses with the extra money, and mentally ill people could pay for their medications and therapy which could reduce crime.

Americans may be more inclined to make healthcare and college free and affordable. If not, the Americans will be more likely to afford it with the extra income every month.

More benefits of U.B.I

U.B.I has more benefits than what I mentioned. It will also stimulate the economy and promote small businesses.

It will also help to end abuse, because those who get abused will be more likely to leave. This is because they will have their own money to support themselves. Many abusers financially control their abuse victims. They claim they will kick the victims out and leave them to be homeless if they speak out or refuse to be hurt.

These payments will also help children that turn 18 when they are kicked out of their abusive parents houses. My parents did this to me when I turned 18 and left me to be homeless. As a result, I know how this works personally. Parents will refuse to let the child get a job and tell them they have to pay for a car themselves (with what money?). The kid is then kicked out with no where to go, no car and no money.

Climate change

COVID-19 also is benefiting the climate in some countries that are practicing shutdowns. The reason for this is that there is less traffic causing pollution. Hopefully, we can learn from this and limit further pollution or else we will have another pandemic.

In conclusion the coronavirus is terrible, but hopefully revolutionizing…

I hope we can learn from the coronavirus outbreak and use it to our benefit. As a nation, we need to learn to be better prepared for the future. We can now see how important universal basic income is to us for the future. Hopefullly, we can see that free health care is needed for the prevention of diseases, because many people can’t afford tests and medical care. This causes the disease to spread.

This disease also shows that we don’t have the medical equipment necessary to save all the lives that need it. If we as a nation learn from this experience, we can be better prepared and ready for any future outbreaks, and we can make our future a lot more safe and bright.

I hope COVID-19 is a learning experience for America or else we will suffer again in the future.
